But Clayton was the first to celebrate father’s day in 1908.
The credit for official father’s day goes to Sonora Smart Dodd, a resident of Spokane, Washington who celebrated father’s day officially in 1910 in Washington as her father William Jackson Smart was a single parent of his six children who parented them and took care of them in Washington. Initially she chose the date of her father’s birthday to celebrate father’s day but due to other busy schedules the celebration was postponed to third Sunday of June. Later in 1966, US president Lyndon B. Johnson designated the third Sunday of June as father’s day honoring fathers.
