Holi may be the festival of colours and love which is
celebrated in Phalgum Purnima that always pops up in end of February or early
March. Holi may be the festival that celebrates the good and bad of anything.
The festival of colours also rebuilds the relationships of the people. About this
day everyone wishes one another 'Happy Holi'. The celebration of Holi starts in
the eve of Holi once the people celebrates using the bonfire. There are lots of
such legends and stories related to the celebrations. People celebrates the
festival by rubbing 'Gulal' and 'Abeer' on one another's face and wishing them
'Bura na Maano Holi Hai'. Besides it some desirous people send holi sms, pass jokes and enjoy the time. Holi also gives the chance to bless and love near and
dear ones by providing them Holi gifts.
The Holi festival is celebrated using the different names in
different states that follows different traditions. The spirit of celebration
from the festival causes it to be special and different in most with the
country as well as in all over the world. On this occasion sending holi messages is the best way to show happiness and interest from your side.
Preparations for Holi
Whole country wears a festive look throughout the festival, market are at buzz during Holi festival. People gives holi wishes to develop love and relationship. There are various Holi hues with gulals and abeers around the roadside on the day before festival. Pichkaris are the modern design which is used to drench the individual within the town. The womenfolk at home prepares the special dishes which are generally prepared during the time of Holi like gujiyas, mathari and papri for your loved ones members and relatives. At certain areas people also prepares papads and poker chips at this time.
Holika Dahan:
Around the eve of Holi, which is sometimes called as the Choti Holi or Small Holi there is a huge bonfire celebrations and the event is called the Holika Dahan. The tradition is followed in all parts of the country. To offer the prayers and greatfulness to Agni, god of fire the gram and harvest will also be offered with the humility.
Have fun with Colors:
On the day of Holi you will find lot of excitement that are seen at the time of the festival. Shops and offices are closed during the day and the next day also. Bright colors like gulal and abeer are filled in the air the ones also pouring color water on one another. Applying colors and dancing on dholak are the special delight of that day.
Consuming Bhang during Holi:
There is also a tradition of consuming Bhang [out] during Holi that is greatly intoxicating in nature and it also enhances the spirit of Holi. However, taking Bhang in excess can spoil the thrill of Holi. Caution must be taken while consuming bhang.
In the evenings the folks meet
relatives and friends and exchanges gifts and festive greetings with each
other. It's thought that Holi is the only festival that encourages the
brotherhood within the society. Every community and religion celebrates the
festival as colorful and joyous one.
